Thank you guys. Season 1 has been a lot of fun, it has been a couple of years since I have seen these episodes.

I've always been a huge fan of Louise Fletcher's, aka: "The Woman Who Would Be Kai Ratched!" It's that voice; equal parts sweet and utterly insinuating. She put it to pitch perfect use in her portrayal of Winn. Fabulous!

I'd have to agree that Duet was a better episode, however, this makes a better season finale. In The Hands of the Prophets deals with the entire Bajoran/Federation/Prophet arc, while Duet focused primarily on Kiera. That would be like airing TNG's The Inner Light as a season-ender. Wouldn't have worked so well. But ItHotP does so much to progress the main themes of the DS9 story as a whole it makes a lovely, if disturbing, end to the season.

Oh and if you want to talk spoilers, please at least refrain from going into great detail on Winn's sloppy make-out sessions with a certain enemy. That's something that is so hard to erase from your mind.

Just thought I would stop by to say that I'm following along. I started watching season 1 DS9 about the time you started the podcast. I had only watched TOS before but the new movie has increased my interest in all things Star Trek. I am enjoying the podcast. I don't think I would be able to find someone else to talk to about the episodes!

Thanks guys and gal for a wonderful first season. I thought this was one of the better podcasts as it had me glued to my iPod the entire time. I appreciate the research you all are doing to give weight to your arguments and I am finding this to be great fun!

I just finished going through the entire series again and have been able to recall each episode from my memory and I would say that your observations on many of the issues are spot on. You have even raised some points that I hadn't considered before, and often I am finding a new nugget or two of trivia in each podcast. For this I thank you. I can't wait until we get into some of the more complex story arcs.

    GO LOUISE FLETCHER!!!!!
What a fabulous actress. Anyone who can make my skin crawl with the slightest hint of her voice is tremendously talented. Her facial expressions, mixed together with her vocal inflections make for a wonderfully sinister and venomous concoction. If you'd like to see her costumes on display visit my website:

(And yes Val, when you come to visit the collection, you can wear this AND the Kai!! :))

Thanks for all you are doing to spread the appreciation of what IMHO is the finest of the Trek series.

Would have loved to be in the room when they were casting the role of Kai Winn Adami. All right, we need someone that everyone will (as Ryan said) "Love to hate".....Get Nurse Ratched on the phone and see if she's available.

As far as what has happed with the school, there's probably going to be some Deep Space 9 home school's popping up.

Great season, looking forward to number 2. Keep up the great work.

I have to disagree on Louise Fletcher. I know the woman has an Oscar under her belt for 'Cuckoo's Nest', but I really find her to be a terrible actress. She seems to always speak in the monotone. I like the Wynn character. She's so manipulative. She's a great villain. But the actress? I'm not a fan.

Krazy Joe...I'm leaning towards your side on Ms. Fletcher. Love to hate Kai Winn...so she's successful on that score. But her craft leaves me wanting.

Hey...props to Keiko! When it comes down to it, you don't mess with her. I loved her brilliantly defiant Galileo teachable moment. Proud!!

The moments that resonated with me are Sisko's conversation with Jake (on perspective and tolerance) and Odo's "seek them yourself" response. Important...effective...DS9 at its simple best.

I have to disagree with VSR on Sisko's firm response to Kira in Ops. Sure...protocol says bad idea. But leadership must sometimes go beyond protocol...and Sisko does it well. Differences of opinion and principals are one thing...unprofessionally shirking duties is another. One must be tolerated...the other cannot. Sisko did the right thing...and throughout the episode displayed his admirable leadership style.

I'm looking forward to the end-of-the-season wrapup...and to DS9 (and GQ) Season 2!! Many thanks to VSR for all your fine work!!!

Nela didn't fool me for a second. Has anyone read any of the novels that occur after this series? Ive read Star Wars novels for years and found them to be very good books. Ive noticed that DS9 has several novels that occur after the series. Just wondering.

I haven't read any DS9 novels but I heard good things about the novel written by Andrew Robinson called "A Stitch in Time." It follows the story of Garrack after the events of "What You Leave Behind." I'll get to it one day, but maybe someone else has some input on it?

Awww, Loise is a pretty good actress; although, she admittedly does have a fairly limited range.

Even though that's the case, I'd put her in the category of being good at the few things she's able to do (à la Katherine Hepburn) as oppose to being bad at what little she can pull off (see Candice Bergen).

Louise Fletcher is a wonderful actress and a limited range deosn't hurt her at all in DS9. She does the chilly evil thing better than any actress I can thinki of at the moment. Honest question - who else could you see in her role?

I read "A Stitch in Time" last year and can tell you that it was very well written and gripping storytelling. I blazed through it in just a couple of days. The info on Garak is wonderful and there is tremendous background story development. I highly recommend it!!
