Sun, 19 July 2009 The Gamma Quadrant talks about the courtroom drama episode that doubles as a Trill educational video. We are riveted by the investigative skill of the crew, but are bored by the court scenes. We like all the characters, but are disappointed that the episode's namesake was practically silent. First of all, I want to say that I am really enjoying the podcast. DS9 is one of my favorite shows of all time and listening to your discussions helps with the absence of any new series right now. As for this episode, I liked the references you caught from the books of Kings I and II but I also see a parallel to a famous song that I believe may have been an inspiration on this one as well. It is called Long Black Veil and has been performed by Johnny Cash, Dave Matthews, and Emmy Lou Harris to name a few. You questioned whether or not Dax might be willing to accept death or incarceration as opposed to exposing the widow's infidelity. I think this song expresses some of the emotions that might go into making that decision.
Hey! Just heard your review and really enjoyed it, but I think I disagree about why Dax was being quiet. Kurzon knew that the general was actually the traitor and yes was sleeping with his wife, but Jadxia was being quiet in order to save the 'image' of the general with his people and also protect his wife. Remember she had been treated like royalty due to her husband being so famous. Great job though! Really enjoying your podcasts!
