The Picard scene was what I liked least about this episode. It was very clear that the two actors were not being filmed at the same time. The whole thing was very disjointed. I wonder if Patrick Stewart had even met Avery Brooks.

Great job on this podcast. I thought you all had valid views on this show. I personally did like having Picard on the episode because it established a timeline for the beginning of the episode, and his presence served as a passing of the Baton to the next series after TNG.
By having Sisko contemplating his own resignation with Picard early on, it gave him tremendous growth potential for the remainder for the episode.
I also loved seeing the Enterprise-D docked at the station. This provided excellent sense of scale.

I hadn't noticed that Brooks and Stewart were not filmed at the same time and I liked both scenes with the two stars.

Not only does this interaction with Picard give Brooks growth potential for the episode, but I believe it establishes Sisko as someone totally different than the "good guy" captain that we were used to through several seasons of TNG, and this difference can be seen throughout the entire series.

I happen to agree that this is the best start of a STAR TREK series, including the orginal series. However, it does highlight the worst of Kira - 'I hate you because that is what I should do' crap that the charater reverts to. I understand that its a starting point, but it was a little too cliche.
I agree with everyone how the episode introduced the 'Prophets'. One of the best setups of a very complex concept of all the shows.
The introduction of Doctor Bashir was spot on, with the wide eyed Starfleet ideals, and gunho attitude that just can grate on you.
Your podcast is great and I like the chemistry. Keep up the good work.
